39ers Aging with ATTitude AUGUST 2024

Hey August 39ers Tell Me Something Good!

Welcome, 39ers! Hopefully, you’re not suffering the same Summer fate as me … so much to do and so little time! I need a cook, a maid, and a chief bottle washer, so I can concentrate on more fun stuff, like this article! So let’s do it …

Celebrating AUGUST 39ers ~ And More!
Happy UN-Birthday Leo and Virgo AUGUST 39ers! Although August is often a transitory, overlooked month, it has its place in life to help you anticipate and appreciate the cooler fall weather. In the meantime, give this month its due … whether August 2024 holds your first or “next” 39er birthday or no birthday at all, below you’ll find a little fun to help you slow down a bit and savor the Summer.

For 39ers who Follow the Stars

Although the early New Moon might seem like it disappeared too early in the month to be helpful, trust me, it isn’t going away that easily. You will still feel its push to reassess and revise well into mid-August.
Leo (07/23-08/22) the royal Lion and the reliable Virgo (08/23-09/22) rule the August skies and may find life a little chaotic. Take heart, it will settle down.

So, my dear Leo, the New Moon on the 4th is urged you to remember, if you want a different outcome to life, you must take a different path. It may not be easy, but what is your heart telling you to do? The more effort you apply, the further you’ll get. When the 19th’s Full Moon rises, whether personal or professional, you’ll finally discover the root problem that’s been holding you back from a major move.

By the last week of the month, Virgo, you’ll be gearing up for a personal reassessment. It’s time for you to see the value you are to others, and feel good about it! This month is all about you discovering the real you. In areas of life, if you’ve been taking the back seat to others’ needs and wants, it’s time for you to drive. Calmly, quietly, but firmly assert yourself. Take the wheel … and enjoy.

֎ More AUGUST Fun for Everyone

At 39 and Holding Club we do what we can to remind you, you can still enjoy the simple things in life, no matter how many times you’ve had a 39er UN-Birthday! August is National Crayon Collection Month! (Note: It’s unclear if the sponsor link is particularly current. Their most recent newsletter date is 2022.) Make it a point to find your inner child and rummage through the closet for your dilapidated box of ol’ Crayolas. See how many are left, and what fun you can still have with them! Go ahead. Take a break and scribble, draw, or color outside the lines. You’ll smile without even thinking about it.

August 4th:  Never fear … the New Moon is here! While you may be dismayed at its early appearance this month, your New Moon Musings will follow and influence your actions through at least mid-month. Celebrate the clarity it brings and New Beginnings it will foster, as we follow up later in the month with Full Moon Magic.

August 4th – 10th: This year more than ever, people would love to predict the future. Learn how now … this is International Psychic Week! Ever wanted to explore the psychic world but too intimidated to go it alone? Maybe this is your summer to explore our enigmatic realms in a whole new way. The sponsor provides many suggestions to create your own week of psychic exploration, or take advantage of their many members in considerably diverse realms. Learn the differences of everything from Tarot to psychic readings and beyond (literally), for your own guidance or to help others. I predict excitement in your future …

August 9th – 17th: Like every year at this time, Graceland—the palatial grounds of Elvis Presley’s home—is celebrating Elvis Week! Not only can you visit and enjoy everything Elvis, but there’s a special opportunity for virtual access to the festivities. Through the miracle of technology, online participants can have online front row seats without even being there! Schedule & pricing. Check out Elvis: Return to Vegas Show on August 16th, featuring Elvis on the big screen accompanied by a live band … so cool.

August 17th: We’re Rockin’ on for Baby Boomers Recognition Day! Well darn, there is no longer a viable sponsor link for this auspicious day—but you know too, 39AHC celebrates Boomers every month! We’re more than happy to share even more recognition for those who remember the “Good ol’ Days,” to spice up the dog days of Summer! You may recall this special day used to be celebrated in June, but now jams and jiggles in August for more celebration with the Woodstock Festival memories (August 15-18, 1969)!

August 19th: Can you feel it?! This month’s Full Sturgeon Moon holds real Full Moon Magic as it displays our first big, bright Supermoon of 2024! And it’s the first of four in a row, as we had into Fall and the Holidays. As always, the Full Moon urges us to complete our projects to make way for more. The wisdom of the ancients—which you can summon to help you know which projects to focus on—comes with August’s Full Moon, named for the giant prehistoric fish of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain. The females can live for 150 years and the “living fossils” are thought to have been around 136 million years ago. A more earthen moniker that you may know, if you’re familiar with the native Cree, looks toward the sky as fledgling birds learn to fly under the “Flying Up Moon.”

August 31st: Oh yum! It’s International Bacon Day! Like we need an excuse to crave bacon. The sponsor link doesn’t seem to be updated since 2022, but it’s chockful of everything bacon! And if you need more encouragement to scarf up some savory bacon, I found a decadent list of recipes for you that offers all-day munching “bacon for breakfast, dinner and dessert.” Enjoy …

֎ Monthly Song of Note

The ultimate Summer love song, “Tell Me Something Good” is coming to you from the hot music annals of AUGUST 1974. The steamy tune, written by Stevie Wonder and performed by Rufus, climbed the chart to #7 for San Diego’s listeners of KCBQ, with one-of-a-kind DJ Shotgun Tom Kelly singing along! How could any woman under the hot summer sun, resist a naked plea of love Tell me something good (tell me, tell me, tell me) | Tell me that you love me We’re stoking your memory to manifest more tuneful tidbits of AUGUST 1974, and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

And dear readers, I just want you to know that I try my best to create an informative, aesthetically creative article for you each month. However, Blogger is not a professional hosting site—but they’re free through Google. So we’re stuck with their crummy platform that doesn’t work well to manipulate images with writing, if you aren’t a techie who knows HTML. Trust me, I’ve tried for years to write articles without gaps between paragraphs and even between sentences. Sigh. Maybe I’ll win the lottery and be able to afford a professional hosting site someday. Cheers!

39ers Aging with ATTitude JULY 2024

July 39ers Love Fun in the Sun!

Happy UN-Birthday JULY 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ July's hot news and notes are here!

We start with celebrating 39ers’ July UN-birthday stars, Cancer and Leo, then skip through the middle of summer with something for everyone who's "Aging with ATT-i-tude"!

We hum a little tune and think about National Baked Beans Month, which really goes well with National Hot Dog Month, while we gaze at the artistry of World Watercolor Month! Hope you’re having fun in the sun and if you need a little break, c’mon in, the water’s fine!

Celebrating JULY 39ers ~ And More!

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
This month
Cancer (06/21-07/22) 39ers, will likely be filled with extreme highs and moderate lows. Although July begins on a bright, high note with the New Moon (5th), you should find it tempering down by the third week. How far down depends on whether you get sucked into personal pettiness or not. Stay above the fray Cancerians, and you’ll be fine.

Hey Leo (07/23-08/22) 39ers, quick heads-up. Your professional life may be a little tricky this month, especially from the 15th through 20th, when your challenge could come in not thinking through and exploring all options. Remember, devil’s in the details. But your social life will be a blast! Get your calendar out and start filling in the squares, as the last half of July could heat up, and not just in temperatures.

For Cancer and Leo friends, lovers and families … be especially aware of the Cancer/Leo 39ers on the mid-month cusp. They may need your help. Be sympathetic, but firm … together, you can work out the best path forward. Most of all, help them celebrate, no matter which 39er UN-birthday has arrived!

To quote my sometimes crass, but endearingly entertaining Irish Grandpa C, “Beans, beans, the musical fruit. The more you eat, the more you toot. The more you toot, the better you feel, so let’s have beans for every meal!” LOL Yep, it’s National Baked Beans Month!
Of course, my mother admonished him for teaching me that little ditty way before I was old enough to know what it meant. But seriously, you likely know by now that beans are a great source of protein and truly good for your digestive system. Enjoy!

And, what goes great with beans? National Hot Dog Month*, of course. And for dessert? National Ice Cream Month! Though there are no official links for these monthly celebrations, we really don’t need any, do we? But I still found a couple that might be worth your look-see. We already know how to make a fun living room or backyard picnic with hot dogs. Afterwards, whip out the art paper and watercolors for a relaxing afternoon of creative expression in World Watercolor Month. There. You’re set for the summer.

July 4th: 39ers tend to take Independence Day a little more seriously and reverently than younger generations. We’ve been through tumultuous times personally, and with our country. One sustaining truth is America is still the best nation on Earth. No government is perfect, and growth should always be part of it as the citizenry changes and evolves. As long as the United States of America remains a democracy, it is our duty as citizens to remain loyal and continue nurturing its growth. I pledge allegiance to the flag

July 5th: Our New Moon Musings get a booster shot of fireworks this month! Celebrate July’s  New Beginnings with a bang in whatever part of your life needs a fresh start.

July 17th: *If you’re wondering which day of this month to scarf down some yummy hot dogs, it’s today! National Hot Dog Day is here—but it’s always on a Wednesday—so give yourself a mid-week break and enjoy!

July 21st: Are you ready for some Full Moon Magic? The Full Moon signifies a time of glorious culmination. It’s the perfect time to wind things up to a satisfying conclusion. If fully completing a project is not yet an option, that’s okay. However, it is still best to take a breather—create an interim pause, and let it marinate a few days before forging ahead—or even until the next New Moon to begin again.
Known as the Full Buck Moon, give it some thought as you link the antlers of a buck that shed and grow more impressive every year, to your projects that can benefit from shedding a little skin and resting, before beginning another growth cycle.

July 24th: Oh yay! I get to celebrate one of my favorite people in the whole world—and he’s a relative! This is Cousins Day! Imagine that. Sadly, there is not an official link so if you ever wanted to know how you get to “second cousins” and beyond, I’ve included a WIKI link. But I pick up on this day every year, ‘cause I love the opportunity to call my cousin for a few moments of shared jubilation.
I’ve always said that I have been blessed with great relatives and RJ is definitely a prime example. We’re as close as I was with my brothers and since they’re both gone, he is my lifeline to family sanity. Just a year apart, while he “gets to be” older, at our age, I love being younger. Gives me the upper hand at this stage of life. As cousins, we can share the family gossip without being directly involved. Perfect! Fortunately, we share similar religious, political, and humanity viewpoints … most of all, he knows I’m always right. LOL So if you have one or more of these wonderful family members in your life, give yourself some time off and give ‘em a call today.

July 25th: Ya know, 39ers, you could combine Cousins Day and Wine and Cheese Day! Great opportunity to enjoy both. Although the sponsored link is a tad outdated, I reviewed the rest of the McClain Cellars site and found a current blog that you may enjoy, along with your wine and cheese. I especially resonated with Jason McClain’s “Four Pillars of Life.” Maybe you will too. Their wines are a tad on the pricey side for my elder budget, but for today, the wine you can afford and a good cheese dish is all that’s needed! Best wine and cheese pairings

July 26th: Where ya going today? Do ya need a “lift”? It’s National Talk in An Elevator Day! Okay … I know this day is sponsored by the largest elevator company in the world—known as vertical transportation systems—but you have to admit, they’re largely overlooked in daily life.
Until recently, I have not had the experience of daily elevator rides—they are truly a unique form of communication combined with a necessary mode of human transport. Before moving to a pseudo-high rise apartment (14 floors), I never gave them much thought in the sporadic lifts of visiting large stores, hospitals, or other vertically challenging buildings. Now, speaking from experience, I realize our multi-floor, daily-use elevators are a gossip lifeline and community chat center. It’s fairly safe to assume the “30-second elevator pitch” is not just a promo cliché.

July 30th: Are you a book reader? Do you wanna be? It’s Paperback Book Day! What better day to pick up a good book and settle in for a relaxing read. And we have just the book for you … Consider, all great music of the 1970s is a direct result of the incredibly innovative Rock & Roll of the 1960s. I can prove it … Get your copy of Blast from Your Past, Book 2 ~ Rock & Roll Radio DJs: The Swinging Sixties! Celebrating our Big Bro site, I can tell ya all about it …
Paperback / black & whitePaperback in collectible color

♪♪♪ Monthly Song of Note  Looking for a “sunny” summer song, I spotted Elton John’sDon’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” Though sentimentally poetic, the lyrics are confusing in my humble opinion—is it a love song or a goodbye song?—I chose it for this month’s Song of Note, as it begins its trek back down the chart list from a high of #8 to #11 at WOKY/Milwaukee—for the second time. Did the station’s listeners suffer from sun stroke when they voted it back up to #5 for the following week? Don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen. Something for you to contemplate as you have fun in the sun! ... More tuneful tidbits to manifest your memories of 1974 and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!
