 Are You Dancing in the Moonlight?

… or the glow of a Lava Lamp? I love when old school tech finds a place in patronizing high-tech life. The following popped up last week in the fun, daily "did you know" notes I receive from Encyclopedia Britannica, and I just had to share it with you.
       “Randomness is important for encryption, but computers are not good at coming up with truly random data. Cloudflare, a company that secures a significant amount of all international web traffic, uses a wall full of lava lamps to generate data that has no discernable pattern.”

Spring has sprung and daylight, moonlight, or lava lamplight, it’s a good time for 39ers to dance!

֎ Celebrating APRIL 39ers ~ And More! 
Dang-it. I missed Full Moon Magic again (it’s now April 10^th, sigh) … it was April 6^th—I assume you celebrated the Pink Moon appropriately.

As Full Moons signify closure, appreciation of what has gone before, and the opportunity to release what no longer works for you, I’m closing doors and making life changes that I’m hoping will open to new adventures and result in my fuller participation in this blog in the coming months. For now …

Strum a little tune or listen to your fave guitar solo for International Guitar Month! It goes hand-in-hand with music’s ability to “soothe the savage beast” with Stress Awareness Month. Take a deep breath and feel the music in your soul.

April 16^th-22^nd: Looking for something new-old that will add a little fun to your life and inspire memories? Find out what Numismatic Week is all about! That’s a fancy name for National Coin Week and they’re celebrating their 100^th event year!
       Join the American Numismatic Association in their “Our Money, Our Heritage, Our America” theme for a week-long series of events to introduce, educate and enjoy coins as they apply to our heritage. Festivities include a live webinar series—free and open to the public! A penny for your thoughts … one like this 1914-S Lincoln/Wheat Penny recently sold for more than $105K.

April 11^th: Okay, let’s give it to ‘em, right now! ♪ … because, 39ers, it’s International "Louie Louie" Day! Someone lovingly established this special day years ago, but the link is no longer available. That’s okay, we’ll just keep on celebrating this ultimate party tune! It was one of our BFYP Rockin’ Radio DJs who produced the Kingsmen’s iconic version in April 1963. Want to know more about Mike Korgan aka DJ “Ken Chase” and his role in “Louie Louie”? Enjoy … 

April 20^th: It’s that time of the month when we need to take a break, and explore where we want to go next, with New Moon Musings. Are you following your deepest desires? Have you even asked yourself what they are? Celebrate April’s New Beginnings, 39ers, with a quiet introspection … then go loudly forward!

April 23^rd-29^th: National Library Week: Ah, the perfect celebration for the end of Spring’s favorite month. April is fresh and feisty, just as is National Library Week’s theme, because “There’s More to the Story”! The American Library Association celebrates the event’s 65^th anniversary this month.
       Do you think libraries “expired” during the pandemic? Well, there is certainly more to that story. Libraries are back to the forefront of life better and more modern than ever. The week’s focus reminds us that our local libraries provide many benefits online and in-person all year long. Says the ALA, “Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, and lectures.” Go. Read. Learn. Enjoy.

April 27^th: Looking for a fun, quirky day to celebrate your UN-birthday, 39ers? Today is Poem in Your Pocket Day! You don’t have to be a “poet” to give meaning to the day. Simply admiring poetry in any form is enough.
       Do you have a few lines or a whole poem that you quote now and again, or secretly refer to when alone? Share them! Put it in paper form and carry it in your pocket all day, or post online with #PocketPoem, to share with friends, family and colleagues. Let them see what inspires you.
       Or wax creative and write your own … participate in National Poetry Month (yup, it’s April) and put a poem in your pocket today. “Hope is the thing with feathers | that perches in the soul …” (Emily Dickinson; 1830-1886)

֎ Monthly Song of Note ♪

Ah, yes, a classic indeed! We’re “Dancing in the Moonlight” to celebrate your 39 and Holding UN-birthday (however many you’ve had), with more tuneful tidbits to manifest your memories of 1973; or to introduce you to the pearls of early Rock ‘n’ Roll. This month’s Song of Note by King Harvest is #19 on WFIL/Philly’s April 2, 1973, Top 30 chart 50 Years Ago this Month!  
       ♪ … It's a supernatural delight | Everybody was dancin' in the moonlight … ♪ This song is more than a smooth melody and ethereal lyrics. Songwriter and musician Sherman Kelly (of band, Boffalongo), wrote it as a mental escape (and wishful thinking) while recovering from a random brutal beating. Though it didn’t fair well in their own lineup, King Harvest made it an enduring hit.

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars

Although this month’s Full Moon (April 6^th) might have manifested a vital change for you, Aries (March 21st–April 19th), you recover quite nicely. The rest of the month you are more positive and pleasantly creative in both your personal and professional activities. Keep up the good work and flow into the rest of the month with breezy flair!        While most people think you Taurus bulls (April 20^th–May 20^th) are stubborn and staid, April proves you can be as lighthearted and silly as the rest of us. The Full Moon freed you of a negative habit or two, and you’re ready to charge into the latter part of April, confident and relieved. There is still much to do, however, which may make you a bit reticent with others. This too, shall pass, as you work through your insecurities to blossom with Spring!

       Those who love Aries and Taurus will know that Aries 39ers relate well to gifts of red, and Taurus is ever partial to earth-loving green. Do you know diamonds come in many colors, in addition to April’s blue sapphire? 😊

֎ Winding it Up!
Finally, it’s time for a little wit and wisdom. Why do I end these articles with an Aging with ATT-i-tude Platitude? Because, while getting to 39 and Holding … and well beyond … I realized at some point, that my life at every age was best with music and laughter—and mental stimulation—all equally important for a youthful life. Fortunately, as a writer, I am always curious and nurture my opinions with research, which are perfect mind-boosters.

Orig'l mini-post: 04/01/23: Spring has sprung and daylight or moonlight, it’s a good time for 39ers to dance! But first, I need to finish this blog … I’m workin’ on it and though I hate making promises, I'll try to have it posted way earlier than last month. I know, that isn’t saying much … however, barring any unforeseen circumstances, it shouldn’t be later than April 8th.

What’s in store for April 39ers? We’re talking about International Guitar Month, Draw a Bird Day, International "Louie Louie" Day, and oh, so much more! And of course, we're celebrating Aries and Taurus 39ers! C’mon back soon and check it out … in the meantime, remember, Age is a number … LIFE is an ATT-i-tude!

Music is March Magic—Just Sing! 

My, it’s been a long dry spell for my 39 and Holding Club redheaded stepchild. That’s what I call this blog (actually, the whole site needs an overhaul), as it always seems to be last on my list of tasks. It’s shunned and alone, until I can find the time for eloquent words to share about the fun of aging. That’s forgetting of course, that you don’t “find” time—you make time. Got it.  

For anyone offended by the “redheaded stepchild” reference—seriously? Though not a stepchild, I am a redhead and if I was being mean-spirited in context … but I’m not … that would be different. As far as the redhead-now-going-gray, I know how to laugh at myself. Many seem to have forgotten how to do that. 

All that said, let’s get on with having fun, at any age, shall we? Are you facing “39 and Holding” for the first time or the twentieth? No matter … we remind you, you’re only as old as you feel* (at any given moment).  At the New Year I generally welcome a new generation of 39ers, and sorry to have missed that this year—even December 2022 was kinda sketchy.  

So, WELCOME everyone born in 1984—this is YOUR year to realize (if you haven’t already)—age is truly subjective. It is just a number, not who you are. With that in mind … 

֎ Celebrating MARCH 39ers ~ And More!  
Ideally, you’d be reading this on March 1^st or shortly after … but we don’t live in a perfect world … so here we are even past the middle of the month. I’m still including earlier special days of the month just for reference, but still to come are this month’s New Moon (March 21^st) and American Crossword Puzzle Days (March 31^st-April 2^nd).

However, what I am most frustrated about is not being able to give March 22^nd its proper due. Why? Read on …

It’s Music in Our Schools Month and I can’t stress enough how music relieves stress whether you ever make a living from it or not. Goodness knows, our kids need stress-relievers right about now. The National Association for Music Education will steer you in the right direction; contact them to learn how to help your local schools establish or re-establish a music program. Get your children interested in music—it truly does soothe the savage beast …

March 7^th: was full of Full Moon Magic. Yes, at this writing, it’s well past March’s Full Moon, but you can’t worm your way out of its month-long effects … The Full Worm Moon is alive and well! It’s true, the little squirmy things emerge from tree bark about this time to welcome Spring. A couple less slimy names for our March Moon in Native form are, the Eagle Moon (Cree) and Wind Strong Moon (Pueblo) which certainly captures March’s blustery attitude.

March 15^th: As a 39er, you may have been called an “old buzzard”—sorry we missed this one: Buzzards Day. Go ahead, add it to your calendar for 2024! Are you an “old buzzard”? Well, you can celebrate yourself on this day (next year)—AND—yep, real turkey buzzards come home to roost on this day in Hinkley, Ohio! My go-to calendar site, Brownielocks loves this day and offers a brief history of how it came to be. Do you know buzzards live up to twenty years? Just too fun.

March 17^th: Faith and begorrah, of course it was St. Patrick’s Day! As you’ve often known me to say—there are a few events in the year that may be celebrated on “the day,” but I generally extend them through the whole month—St. Patrick’s Day is one of them—so let’s just keep the party going! And it helps that March is the month of Spring, which begs more green. And that leads me into …

March 20^th: Spring “began”! Even if it’s gloomy and cold in your neck of the woods, the equinox gives us an inner warmth knowing Spring is just around the corner …  

March 21^st: Use New Moon Musings to soften March’s New Beginnings with wit and creativity, which if they haven’t appeared already, will be many. Take heart, as you take each new step with dignity and confidence.

So, speaking of new beginnings, if you’re just beginning your 39er adventures or celebrating again, we take you to …  

March 22^nd: It’s “39 and Holding DAY”! YES last year I created this day for the calendars, on which all 39ers can celebrate a day together—regardless of when your birthday is, when you reached the magic marker of life, or how many you’ve had since! Enjoy this day of 39er camaraderie.

       In 2022 I had BIG plans for this year’s 39er celebration … obviously that didn’t work out. Undaunted, I will aim for a 2024 blast. For now, feel free to join me, and/or create your own, local celebration of 39ers! Don't forget to take a tour around the 39AHC site, and especially today’s page, which will give you more history on us, fun info about the day and its connection to funnyman extraordinaire, Jack Benny, and the “As Young as You Feel” movie! (Hints: It’s all about an “old buzzard” who’s company forced him to retire at 65 years old. And look for the “bit part” played by up-and-coming starlet, Marilyn Monroe!) Which leads us to …

*March 22^nd: As Young as You Feel Day! It’s true—we tied this day to our own 39AHC Day! It’s on the

calendars without an official link, so we’re just adding it to our rollicking day of delicious fun for all ages. I’ll warn you though, the movie of the same name is typical 1950s fare—full of what once was female angst in a male-dominated world. I don't care what the thought-police say, you can’t erase history—and much of it now, is great fodder for laughing at ourselves and enjoying how far we’ve progressed, despite protests of the opposite.

March 31^st-April 2^nd: Oh glory be for puzzle people! Make sure your pen is filled with ink and head into American Crossword Puzzle Days. It’s no secret 39ers love crosswords, but these head-noodling mainstays of newspapers and puzzle books, is celebrating The 45th Annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. The venerable contest is reveling in its stature as the nation’s oldest and largest crossword competition, with Host and Puzzlemaster Will Shortz, crossword puzzle editor for New York Times.  

֎ Monthly Song of Note ♪  
In honor of Music in Our Schools Month, I chose #17 on KSTN/Stockton’s radio Top 40 survey for March 1973

… “Sing” by The Carpenters. It just makes you want to hum, tap your toes, or belt it out like no one is listening (the linked version has lyrics!). Enjoy the simple pleasures that music brings your soul while you peruse ... more tuneful tidbits to manifest your memories of 1973, and/or just keepin’ the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!  

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars …   
Well, since I’m not posting this until March 21^st, suffice it to say, Pisces 39ers (Feb 19-Mar 20), you already know how your month is going and not much will change in the next couple of weeks. Love has taken a front seat in March as you reconnect with your mate, or feel the pull of amour, if single. You’ve also been a sensitive and loving friend all month; keep up the good work!
        Aries 39ers (Mar 21-April 19) have been marching to their own beat since birth and this month is no different, albeit a bit more in a straight line … straight to a new job and/or a new love! Or, simply a new way of looking at them. Your choice. Either way, it’s one of those “better in the long run” decisions. So tread lightly. All-in-all, when Pluto enters Aquarius for the first time in more than two hundred years (March 23-June 11), we’ll all feel the urge to focus on our friends, the ways of the world, and a concern for how we can help. Be alert.
