Happy UN-Birthday 39ers NOVEMBER 2021

November: Thankful, resilient & transformative (& finally posted!)

First, a profound apology to all November 39ers (including myself!) for this lamentably late post of the 39 and Holding Club monthly article. I wish it could have been avoided—pain and all. However, I hope this makes up for it a bit, and you enjoy what I’ve been able to put together for you.

֎ Celebrating NOVEMBER 39ers ~ And More!

Of course, we can still celebrate the monthly events, like Adopt a Senior Pet Month—senior pets need love too!; National Gratitude Month—don’t overlook the need (for you and others) to show your gratitude; and my personal fave, Family Stories Month!
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to
interview your family and record their rich, vibrant lives for your own multi-generational “Family Book of Memories.”

But what have we missed? Since I’m partial to my once-burnished red hair (now refreshed monthly by L’Oreal!), I hate to admit we missed November 5th’s National Love Your Red Hair Day, so I’ll just toast to kindred spirits, with the 7th’s International Merlot Day.

What’s left? Plenty! And more than the annual Thanksgiving feast. Let’s start with …

[Vintage jukebox lighter BFYP Collection]
November 24th: ♪ So put another dime in the jukebox, baby … ♪*  It’s National Jukebox Day! Our Big Bro site, Blast from Your Past loves this day, because pioneering jukeboxes and Rock Radio DJs made a terrific musical team back in the Golden Years of Rock & Roll. 1950s-1980s, Rock & Roll and its many iconic bands and artists, flourished with the shared promotions of radio and jukeboxes. No respectable diner was without one, and even the diviest dive bar played the day’s Rockin’ & Country hits on a colorful jukebox, as they climbed the Radio charts. ♪ I love to give the girls a whirl | to the music of an old jukebox … ♪**
       [*
I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” originally recorded by British boys, the Arrows in 1975 and memorably recorded by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts (1981). **Honky-tonk Man,” first recorded in 1956 by Johnny Horton and famously re-released in 1986 by Dwight Yoakam. And P.S.: I’m inherently lazy, so I write jukebox as one word—originally, it was two and can now be either.]

November 26th: It’s the day after Thanksgiving … what are you doing? Clawing through the last vestiges of Black Friday sales that began in October? Why not relax, grab a recorder, and actually talk with some of your family and friends who are lingering in the living room, for a National Day of Listening. Although with issues, its Wiki page urges us to record our stories for future generations. An admirable suggestion. Something I’ve done for years on all three of my sites (39AndHoldingClub, BlastFromYourPast, and PenchantForPenning.) If you’ve never done it, it’s easy! Just start with your memories …

November 30th: Yep, it’s an obscure Tuesday after Thanksgiving and you're burnt out. Regain your energy with kindness! It’s Giving Tuesday! Although begun in 2012 as a one-day movement, this honorable day is encouraging us to make it a weekly occurrence. Give. Not just in dollars, but in deeds and thoughts. So after you spend all day at the computer on Cyber Monday spending money, make Giving Tuesday your favorite day of the week, and share your generosity of spirit beyond Christmas gifts—as the site says, “ … whether it’s some of your time, a donation, or the power of your voice in your local community.”

November Song of Note: This “Month of Thanks“ and “Family Month” is perfect for a song that led us to think about family dynamics, back in NOVEMBER 1971. “Family Affair” by Sly and the Family Stone hit #21 on KOWN/Escondido, California’s Top 30 survey. Though a tad cynical for a “family” tune, its soul and funk sound speaks to the reality of family life. Cheers to your family and finding more happiness this November than expressed by Sly and his Family 50 Years Ago this Month!  You can’t leave ‘cause your heart is there … ♪ Bringing back tuneful memories of 1971

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Good thing
Scorps (10/23-11/21) are known for their transformations. Yep, that’s me, too, and boy, does my life need transforming! If you’re also feeling the pressure to “change it up,” you can do it. This month is all about our Phoenix tendencies, inside and maybe even outside. Make the most of it, Scorpio—just make sure you weigh all your options and wield your talons wisely. Stay true to yourself. And remember, you have friends (you don’t have to go it alone).
Often the consummate money-maker, Sagittarians (11/22-12/21) roll into the Holidays focused on business. The moon and Venus work together throughout the month to maximize your business and personal life. Your big ideas might be the best yet. Tie up the loose ends early in the third week and throw your family/friends a great Thanksgiving dinner! If you’re a friend of a Sagittarian, offer encouragement … it will be welcome.

Wellllll this is a fine predicament I got myself into! Car in the shop … took a debilitating fall in the hallway … and here I am, leg/knee in brace, propped up on pillows trying to salvage some of November for our UN-Birthday 39ers, before the month vanishes altogether! Give me another day (or two) and I’ll regale you with a month of more reasons to celebrate, and I’ll find something to laugh about! I swear.

It’s my birthday month, too. Heck of a way to spend it. But I, like many others, have  had worse, so I’ll focus on that silver lining (when I find it) and transform the negative to a positive. So which Zodiac sign does that make me? … the mysterious Scorpio or party-loving Sagittarius? These two sun signs have some similar traits, but boy, do they go about them differently! For now, celebrate being you, whichever you are, and I’ll be back soon with 39er November fun! Coming up ... Adopt a Senior Pet Month, Family Stories Month, and November's Song of Note ... and more ...

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers ROCK-tober 2021

 39ers Rock On in ROCK-tober!

So believe it or not, I was on track to finish this post before October 1st. As you can see, it didn’t happen. Sorry, but I had an offer I couldn’t refuse—drive cross-country with family for my granddaughter’s wedding. This comes to you from on the road and with little sleep. Please bear with me as we celebrate a happy UN-birthday with ROCK-tober 39ers!

To get us started, we’re kickin’ up our heels in October, with Country Music Month. Oh, you mean there is more to ROCK-tober than Rock & Roll and my favorite haunted Holiday?!

Yup, and since I have to wait all month for ghosts ‘n’ goblins, here is some mid-month fun for everyone … get out your banjos and boots, and let’s boot-scoot across the party floor …

֎Celebrating OCTOBER 39ers ~ And More!
Though we generally think B-B-Q and beans in the Country, October is also National Seafood Month
as we 39ers wade into a celebratory food month. I love seafood too … of course, steak and lobster or shrimp are a favorite, but I am also a fan of Mahi Mahi, salmon, yellowtail, and South of the border inspired, fish tacos, to name just a few.  Fish on the barbie is tasty too!

And who doesn’t love Pizza Month? I’ll take it just about any ol’ way, except with anchovies. Ewwww. To wash it down, you might expect a traditional beer, but when I’m really feeling feisty, let’s pop the champagne! Seriously … love the combo.

October 22nd: Which leads us to Global Champagne Day! Any nice red or rosé works with pizza, ya know, while a tasty white wine or light rose adds ambiance to your dinner from the sea. The folks at the Champagne Day website, will even help you find an event to enjoy a celebration, near you!

October 31st: Finally, it’s Halloween! No need to list food here, too much to consider … sweets aside. Yum! After last year’s hiatus (from life), are you costuming this year? It’s Country Music Month so the traditional cowboy/girl hats ‘n’ chaps just need a guitar to make it fun. And since William Shatner (Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise / Star Trek) just took a real jaunt to space, aliens and astronauts will be in demand. Whatever you do, keep the pumpkin lights on and enjoy!

֎Monthly Song of Note: Of course, at big-bro site, Blast from Your Past, we’re focusing on ROCK-tober and songs that go bump in the night. “Sweet City Woman,” the Country/Rock tune by The Stampeders, is a great feature for Country Music Month. But we’re looking for spooky and couldn’t help noticing the memorable “Wild Night” by Van Morrison. He conjures up wild nights and crazy times in a dark, rambling love song … The wild night is callin’ | Come on out and danceBringing back tuneful memories of 1971, 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎For 39ers who Follow the Stars
My dear
Librans (09/23) – 10/22), the New Moon this month has you all in a tizzy as you consider opportunities and goals this month. Worry not, if you don’t make it all happen now. Though 39er Librans tend to internalize everything, your mind will unclutter itself before Halloween and you’ll swing into the end of the month ready to party hearty!

Scorpio (10/23 – 11/21), too, should lay low through the latter half of October. Famous for retreating into your inner self, it’s okay this month. to let your stinger rest and use the time to reevaluate and rejuvenate. This is a good time for quiet contemplation and honest introspection. As we age with attitude, welcome the additional wisdom and strength. By November, Scorpio 39ers will be a power to reckon with.

I’ve come to learn that laughter may not heal everything, but it helps keep you sane, feeling young, and life more livable
