Happy UN-Birthday 39ers JUNE 2021

Summer Moments Make the Years Melt Away

Congrats on another 39 and Holding UN-birthday! 39AHC has a new slogan. While we still stand by our tagline, Age is a Number … LIFE is ATT-i-tude! we have a new way to give every UN-birthday and its new year, special meaning: Don’t count the years … count the Moments.

And we stand ready to offer a month’s worth of interesting ways to create moments in peaceful solitude, or with family and friends. Let’s get this party started …

Celebrating JUNE 39ers ~ And More!
Along with
National Rose Month—an excuse to buy yourself roses to plant or simply enjoy—and National Camping Month—backyard and beyond, we’re keeping it real with 39AHC’s June health* feature: Cataract Awareness Month.

I know, we don’t want to think about maturing beyond our glory days, but we should be at least a tad realistic and prepared. For most of us, it isn’t an if type of malady, it’s a when. A couple of months ago, my optometrist succinctly stated, “Your left eye cannot be helped by another prescription. It’s time for cataract surgery.” Sigh.

The good news, the procedure to remedy this common age-related malady has been quite perfected over the past couple of decades. Like my surgery yielded, 20/20 vision restored, is most common. Yay! Though there is no link for this special month, my fave health go-to expert,
Mayo Clinic, can help us out with the basics about this very curable condition. Let’s “see” what else is on tap for JUNE 39ers

June 15th: Grab your camera 39ers and head outdoors for Nature Photography Day! As the folks at North American Nature Photography Association say, “Build vibrant memories by picking something close to home that you’ve never photographed before. Then make plans to photograph that subject or scene every June 15. Enjoy the pilgrimage!” Their site shares many ways to enjoy this day. As an ardent nature photography buff, my favorite
subject is the ocean, but flowers are a close second! Enjoy your UN-birthday with Mother Nature.

June 19th: The great thing about International Surfing Day is you don’t need to live by the sea to honor it! If you live inland, celebrate the day, in “style.” Don a Hawaiian shirt, a hula skirt, or find a vintage straw beach hat and top off the day with a perfect 39er UN-birthday party of classic Beach Boys surf tunes.♪ (Don’t forget the Mai Tais!)

For a more hands-on celebration, find a
beach clean-up adventure to join, or any natural habitat in your area. We all have the responsibility to keep our land as clean as possible for the next generations. Get stoked, dude, surf’s up!

June 20th: Patriotism flies! It’s “American Eagle Day … a special day to commemorate the anniversary of the bald eagle’s selection as our National Symbol and to celebrate its return to America’s skies.” The American Bald Eagle represents the core of our country with strength, beauty, and freedom.

And something I had not known before, according to
Wiki, "The sexes are identical in plumage, but females are about 25 percent larger than males." (My italics.) Isn't that interesting? Especially in a world still catering to the male species, and in ornithology, where males are generally prettier and larger than females.
So women, stand tall and proud with the American Eagle, and all hail to 2021's patriotic summer season of the American Bald Eagle and the United States of America!

June 20th: However, also this day, let’s not forget another National Treasure—dear ol’ DAD—it’s Father’s Day! Apparently, it was quite the quest to establishing an official Father’s Day. From conception to presidential signing spanned nearly 70 years! But it’s here to stay … enjoy the day and say it with humor … “Why do dads feel the need to tell such bad jokes? They just want to help you become a groan up.” Happy Father’s Day, Pop!

June 24th: Speaking of eagles flying … what’s that soaring on the calendar? It’s World UFO Day! Although the official link is a brief intro on Wiki, there are more than a few UFO sites on the ‘Net catering to anyone even vaguely interested.

Annnnnd, you have your choice to celebrate June 24, 1947—when fly-guy Kenneth Arnold reported the arguably first unidentified flying object(s) in the U.S., AND/OR barely a week later (coincidence?) July 2nd, which marks the date of the infamous 1947 “
Roswell incident.” The U.S. government still refers to the popularly construed New Mexico alien craft crash landing, as a collapsed weather balloon.

This month however, brings
heightened interest as the Pentagon* (under public pressure) “… is expected to release a report this month on UFO sightings, the result of a program designed to record and investigate sightings by the U.S. military.” (*L.A. Times, June 2, 2021.) But don’t get your hopes up or pull your tinfoil hat out of the closet just yet. The report is also not expected to yield a definitive yay or nay on the controversial sightings. Keep your eye on the news, ufologists!
... But that's not the reason that I came to land | I wanna get a job in a rock 'n roll band ...! ♪ *

For 39ers who Follow the Stars ...
Happy UN-Birthday 39ers! Taking us into June, we know Gemini (05/21-06/20) minds move like the wind, both an asset and a detriment. At times, you tend to get all wound up in an inner tornado. Take a deep breath, think calm, and work it out. You’re a mastermind when you focus. Is your UN-birthday party in the works? When it comes to festive fetes, no one tops your creativity and attention to details.       Kindhearted Cancerians (06/21-07/22) step into the spotlight for the last half of the month, ready to smooth their Gemini friends’ ruffled feathers. More lover than fighter, they’re supportive and nurturing, but can be a tad crusty on the surface. Don’t admonish, forgiveness and attention work wonders with your Cancer buds. Intuitive to your needs, their loyalty and love make up for a gruff comment or two, just in time to party!

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers MAY 2021

Put a Spring in Your Step from May Day to Memorial Day!

Wake up 39ers! Spring has sprung and freedom feels more precious than ever. From May Day to Memorial Day, let’s honor our 39er UN-birthdays with special personal and patriotic days in May for any age …

Celebrating MAY 39ers ~ And More!
39ers often have revelations about life as they reach another 39 and Holding birthday. One of those aha! moments may bring you to realizing that May, as Personal History Month, is a great time to start your family legacy … documenting your life and place within your family is important. Do it. Do it now.

A great way to evoke memories and familial thoughts is to take some daily quiet time for yourself. Although there are no official links associated with these designations, you may find those I’ve included helpful to observe National Meditation Month, which sets the tone for National Mental Health Month, our nod to your well-being for May.

Even five minutes of
meditation is good for your body, mind, spirit and soul. So breathe deep and follow the links with information for quick meditation, which could fundamentally contribute to your overall mental health.

Merry Days in May
May 9th ~ Mother's Day
– Of course, it’s Mother’s Day! To all of you in every generation … Happy Mother’s Day! Dig out all the old photos of your kids, and happy reminiscing …

May 10-16th: While we’re pouring over old photos, let’s raise a pint to American Craft Beer Week! San Diego is a mecca of craft beers. But even if you don’t live in a town that caters to beer lovers, your local store surely stocks some tempting independent brewers. The cool folks at CraftBeer.com even offer an interactive map to help you find them! Have you taste-tested a favorite and stuck with it, or do you try a new one every week? Whichever … be adventurous. Cheers!

May 25-30th: So I ask you, have you ever been called “stubborn as an ol’ mule”? Of course, that may happen more often, the more 39 and Holding birthdays you pass! Well, pardner, mellow out and go where you can join the real ones for Mule Days!
Take a rural vacation from pretty much everything, in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains area of
Bishop, California. They love their mules. Seriously. The folks there have been celebrating the irascible animal for nearly fifty years, and proud of it. More fun than a carnival, campground, and rodeo put together. Tickets still available for Will Call. Get off your duff and go!

May 15th ~ Straw Hat Day – It’s true! Once upon a time, men wore “boaters,” the original straw hat, strictly between May and September 15th, signaling the span of summer. But do you know there also was once, a “Straw Hat Riot”?
Taken straight from its Wiki page: “The
Straw Hat Riot of 1922 was a riot that occurred in New York City. Originating as a series of minor riots, it spread due to men wearing straw hats past the unofficial date that was deemed socially acceptable, September 15. It lasted eight days, leading to many arrests and some injuries.” Oh my. And you thought riots began in the ‘60s. On a more civilized note, let’s tip our glasses (not hats), to …

May 25th ~ National Wine Day – Not that this day needs a “club,” to deliver grape enjoyment, but the most excellent folks at the WineClubGroup.com, who established the day, reviewed wine clubs in nearly every state, to provide further incentive to tip a glass of grapes, and listed a number of special wine days throughout the year. But then, who needs an excuse … right?!

31st ~ Memorial Day – Remember to wear and display your red-white-blue for a true-blue holiday that commemorates the bravery of our military service men and women, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America. Unfortunately, many citizens have forgotten, never known, or disdain the official practices for flying the American flag. Especially on days like this, Old Glory is a vibrant symbol of respect, for your country, for others, and most of all, for yourself. Fly it proudly.

For 39ers who Follow the Stars ...

Mayflowers for Moms! Whether you’re a deliberate and steadfast Taurus (April 20-May 20) based in earthy complexity —or party-hearty Gemini (May 21-June 20) eager for a full moon gala, Mom isn’t far from your thoughts. Give her May’s fragrant lily-of-the-valley that “signifies sweetness, humility, and a return to happiness.” Particularly appropriate this year.

Taurus 39ers personify the vibrant, multi-faceted cuts of the sign’s deep
emerald birthstone. Much like mom, it goes beyond the surface and roots calmly in your mindful crevices. Also like mom, the emerald shimmers brightly over quick-witted and chatty Geminis too.
No May celebration is complete without them! You may try, but you likely won’t keep up with Gemini’s energetic twin sign as they rush head-long through the month, adding a seemingly magic touch to every moment.

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers APRIL 2021

Dandelions, Earthworms, and [Inhale] … Weed, Dude!

UN-birthdays at any age … are a compromise between your inner youth and exterior maturity. Meld them, mold them, and enjoy …

Celebrating APRIL 39ers ~ And More!
It’s National Humor Month! Though there is no associated link, who needs a link to laugh? Ok, I know the past year has been tough and laughing for many, a rare occurrence. But we were given the gift of laughter at creation, so if you need some help restoring your sense of humor, here are some fun and laughable quotes …

~ “Someone offered me grapes, but I declined. I’m not used to consuming wine in pill form.” [Unknown
~ “Of course I talk to myself. Sometimes I need expert advice.” [Unknown]

~ “I won’t quit but I will cuss the whole time.” [Unknown]
~ “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” Winston S Churchill There’s more … just click a link and laugh.

And lest we forget, it’s … National Cannabis Awareness Month. As we climb ever higher in 39AHC UN-birthdays, it’s as good a time as any to explore this subject for our myriad of aches and pains.

The associated site focuses on empathic practices and the link goes to a 2019 page of celebration and cannabis history. However, you might want to learn more awareness from their relatively current blog that offers general and marijuana related medical relief methods.

Of course, no April would be complete without a nod to 4/20 Day (April 20th). Amazingly, no link was connected. But of course, we have one for you. Myths and most likely way 4/20 became “Weed Day.” 4:20p.m. is a fine time of day between morn and night. ♪ … But I would not feel so all alone | Everybody must get stoned … ♪ *

And I still love Dandelion Day, April 30th. How about you? The link sends you to the wine loving Dandelion Festival in the Amish Country of Dover, Ohio. And who doesn’t love wine?!

But here at 39AHC, we also want to remind you that the “weed” known as the dandelion is still our favorite childhood way to make a wish. Do it now … and raise your wine glass high for your wish to reach the sky. Speaking of which …

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Aries
(March 21st–April 19th) and Taurus (April 20th–April 20th) bring April’s Spring hopefulness
together, as we look forward with hope, to ending the year without a pandemic.

In today’s world, Aries the Ram folks can seem a bit obstinate, but they thrive on the kind of free-thinking ideas we need right now. Look to your Aries friends for the creativeness it’ll take to fortify our lives.
Sharing the month, we celebrate Earth Day (April 22nd) in the sign of the earthy Taurus. The middle name for all Taurus bulls is “practical,” prominently moving through the end of the month with Aries’ lofty ideas grounded in reality. Taurus isn’t exactly “predictable,” but they are consistent and loving.

Shopping for birthday gifts? Red flows dominantly through the Aries psychet; and of course, Earth green with tinges of golden brown falls into Taurus’s healthy color spectrum. But it’s the clarity of the lustrous diamond that will capture the attention of both, as April’s glamorous gemstone.
