Happy UN-Birthday 39ers Grateful NOVEMBER 2020

This Month Live Charitably, Love More and Laugh Often

From 12:01a.m. on All Hallow’s Day (November 1) to the Full Moon on November 30th, this is an exceptional feast and frolic month! If your birthday falls in this month, all the better … we can’t ignore what went before, but we can certainly cherish life more … and smile.

Celebrating NOVEMBER 39ers ~ And More!

It should go w/o saying that this is Gratitude Month … but I’m saying it anyway, just in case … and yes, it’s a real, recognized designation … so THANK YOU for reading this humble writer’s blog.

And beyond that, we’re into the Foodie Season! Scrumptious foods and their corresponding “special” days await! Let’s get into it, 39ers, like we were ten years old again …

Do you know that in spite of turkey, pumpkin, and various spices that permeate this Thanksgiving month, it is also National Peanut Butter Lovers Month? “By law, any product labeled ‘peanut butter’ in the United States must be at least 90 percent peanuts,” says the National Peanut Board. As it should be.

November 9-15th:
Another legume that doesn’t enjoy quite the same reputation as peanuts, often suffers a bad rap in the kitchen. I’m one of the few I know who celebrates National Split Pea Soup Week. Also called “pulse” … “a Latin word meaning thick soup used to describe the edible seeds of legumes.” This pea-green dish has been celebrated in America since 1969 … seriously? Excellent. And there you have it. Eat your veggies in pulse.

November 19th: From food to fashion, join a cause that brings back the core and soul of American commerce … American Made Matters Day is the brainchild of Bollman Hats’ president/CEO, Don Rongione. The employee owned American company tells you why it matters and where to buy American.
“We have established an organization called American Made Matters and now, we have 365 members in 45 states … Our goal is to emphasize the quality and design of products made by Americans. And our mission is to educate the consumer that buying American-made products strengthens the American dream.” (MR Magazine, 10/12/16, by David Rose) Let’s do it.

November 20th: Speaking of peanuts, it’s well known in my family that I am a peanut butter nuthead and a bit of a chocoholic. Imagine my delight when I stumbled on National Peanut Butter Fudge Day! “Peanuts are heart healthy, a good source of fiber and contain mostly good fats.” Um, sans the chocolate, of course. It’s also my birthday so guess who’s indulging? (And in case you’re wondering, of course, I’m 39 and Holdingagain.)

November 25th: Are you ready? While we’re prepping for tomorrow’s feast, let’s dance a little merry jiggle to #OldTimeRock&Roll tunes on the jukebox! Call it pre-Thanksgiving exercise. Get your boogie on with National Jukebox Day (day before Thanksgiving) and take some pictures, then hashtag with #NationalJukeboxDay and share ‘em!

November 26th: Besides the familial food, fun and frolic of Thanksgiving Day … oh who am I kidding? It’s all about food, fun and frolic … if you’re not doing the cooking. Otherwise, it’s all about rushing around the kitchen trying to time a variety of hot dishes to hit the table at the same time!

November 30th: Sit back and sip the warmth of Cider Monday (Monday after Thanksgiving) – oh yes, I know it’s also “Cyber Monday” and you-all can spend your time online, shopping away your dollars … me, I’m gonna relax and give myself a break with a yummy spiced-mulled apple cider cocktail to celebrate Cider Monday, and the true beginning of the Holidays. Cheers to you!

To wind up the month, while you have the family all in one place, or together on a Zoom-fest, ask each to share a reminiscence for Family Stories Month. Make it dessert.

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
There’s a common misconception that Scorpio folks (10/23-11/21)  are out for blood, with their mighty stingers. In truth, those sharp-pointed tail ends are designed for defense and they would rather die than attack. However, when backed into a corner, make no mistake … they are formidable opponents. In contrast, they do love a good party!

In the latter part of the month, Sagittarians (11/22-12/21) are perfect Thanksgiving party planners. They’ll track every detail and if you don’t want them to take over everything and go a little crazy with exotic designs, be specific. They love specifics. If you’re close to an Archer, be ready for adventure. They’re never without it.

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers NOVEMBER 2019

Many Thanks for Pets, Peanut Butter & Jukeboxes!

In addition to National Gratitude Month—after all, Thanksgiving is November’s premiere holiday—there are many other ways to give thanks and celebrate your life. C’mon along 39ers!

Along with Your UN-Birthday ~ Happy NOVEMBER Celebrations
It isn’t all about Thanksgiving, you know. Well … maybe it is. But still, turkey isn’t the only celebrated food in November. Last one to the table buys the wine …

<>It’s National Peanut Butter Lovers Month! With any luck, someone in your potluck feasts this month will bake a batch or two of Holiday Peanut Butter cookies. My favorite! And yet, I didn’t know …
Peanut butter was originally made for people with no teeth. Although I knew of one, I also didn’t know …Two peanut farmers have been elected president of the USA – Virginia's Thomas Jefferson and Georgia's Jimmy Carter.
In a high-pressure environment, peanut butter can be turned into diamonds. How cool is that?! NOW they have my attention!

<>Looking for love in all the wrong places? Celebrate Adopt A Senior Pet Month and revel in unconditional love! Humans aren’t the only 39ers—older pets tend to be less appreciated, so show your love and count your best playful years together.

<>And a designation near and dear to my ol’ heart: Family Stories Month*! Have you thought about it? Leaving your legacy, I mean. Since we don't have a crystal ball that tells us when we'll ... well, you know ... leaving your legacy at any age is important. Do it now.
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reminisce and listen for stories you may not have heard before; give your family and friends your full focus. Maybe even set a recorder or camera to cover your golden turkey day (or tofu, or other scrumptious meal) for posterity—and your Book of Family Stories.

Usually I also list a couple of fun day-events to celebrate too but have decided from this month forward to give only one special day a mention. Month-long celebrations feel more appropriate. So what’s on tap for November 2019? Get your dancing shoes on and let’s par-TAY!

November 27th:
There’s nothing like, Singing, I love rock and roll | So put another dime in the jukebox, baby ♪ (**Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, 1982) because it’s National Jukebox Day! Give a nod to TouchTunes, which established this fun national day; but I did not include their site here, as it is not a secure link. (**See my policies, below.) However, RePlay Magazine has a 2016 article that tells you all about it, and it’s just tooooooo much of a fun day not to list it for your enjoyment.
While the jukebox is glorified in Rock & Roll, it hit the “juke joints” long before the 1950s when popular music began to Rock. Now an iconic piece of musical history, the once ubiquitous mechanical bar band is fondly remembered in more than one song. **Joe Diffie made it clear, ♪ Fill my boots up with sand, put a stiff drink in my hand | Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die ♪ (1993)

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Do you have any secrets? Of course, we all do. If you count an inquisitive Scorpio (10/23-11/21) as your friend, you won’t have them for long! Scorpios make great investigators and researchers, as they delve into the depths of anything that catches their attention. Including you! However, their integrity won’t let them tell unless you OK it.
No worries with a lively Sagittarian (11/22-12/21), as they’re too busy to dive below the surface, preferring to plan your next 39er party or extreme adventure outing. Make no mistake though, they aren’t frivolous. Sagittarians are focused as they take aim and home in on the horizon. Ambitious and driven also describes the often very successful Sagittarian. Count yourself fortunate to be in their inner circle.

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers NOVEMBER 2018

Attitude, Gratitude, and a Rose

Hey, November 39ers, feeling blue with another birthday this month? You know they come every year. The trick is to listen to your mind, which invariably thinks you’re younger than your body-age.

That’s why we choose to be 39 and Holding every year! You’re old enough to have learned some valuable lessons, and young enough to keep that spring in your step! So let’s celebrate with another UN-birthday month!

39er Fitness and Fun
Welcome to November, 39ers … the month of the year when we feel gratitude for simply being here. Sound like a Pollyanna attitude? Absolutely. But an attitude of gratitude this month and every day is a step towards more than accomplishing goals—it’s a necessity for wellness inside and out.

Says the Mayo Clinic, “… effective stress management is associated with many health benefits. If you tend to be pessimistic, don't despair — you can learn positive thinking skills.” Do it.

39 Years Ago this Month ~ NOVEMBER 1979
November 9th: It isn’t often a screen debut results in an Oscar nomination. While The Rose may have been loosely based on Janis Joplin, Bette Midler owned the audience in her first major film role. Which of course, didn’t hurt her singing career, as the title track burst into the top ten at KFRC/San Francisco and around the nation, in the early summer of 1979, to become one of her signature hits.

November 26th: Every wonder when we stopped Rockin’ ‘round the clock? Figuratively speaking, I can tell you, it was on this day in a command appearance for Queen Elizabeth II. It became Bill Haley & His Comets' final recorded performance of the infamous song, “Rock Around the Clock.” Tick tock.

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Though Scorpions may be a mystery to many, those who work to discover the key to these enigmatic people will witness the magic within. Friendly but introspective and creatively planning Scorpios (Oct 23 – Nov 21) will figure you out in a heartbeat, but it may take years (if ever) for you to get where they’re coming from. Your honesty and integrity will help.
On the other end of the Astrology spectrum, meet an energetic, lead-follow-or-move-out-of-the-way, ambitious Sagittarian (Nov 22 – Dec 21), and life will be much easier, albeit very busy. They often have a larger-than-life presence (think Jupiter—their ruling planet) and can’t wait to get to the next adventure. Always spoiling for a party, it’s a good bet they’re already ensuring New Year festivities are on target.

With the power of three (+) Zodiac  enlightenment symbols to draw from: Scorpion, Eagle, and Phoenix—Scorpios are naturals at coordinating elements of life; though implementing may prove a tougher challenge. Sagittarians, however are focused as they take aim and hone in on the horizon. Charge!

What you do from this day forward is a result of your attitude about what went before and the anticipation of what awaits you. Love it—live it. ~ L. Rochelle; founder 39 and Holding Club, Blast from Your Past, and Penchant for Penning.

Great cheese and wine need aging, but 39ers know Age is Just a Number … LIFE is ATT-i-tude!TM
