Happy UN-Birthday 39ers DECEMBER 2020 Ho! Ho! Ho!

Reflect. Rejoice. Rejuvenate. Enjoy! Next Year

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m happy to rush through Christmas and head straight for champagne and the New Year. Especially in view of several states’ new lockdown that keeps us from our loved ones. Ugh. As we used to say, grin and bear it. Do we have a choice?

December of course, is largely about various cultural Holidays (virtual or memories) and the spirit of Christmas. We must keep the spirit alive, m’friends.

I tried to find some other interesting, off-the-beaten-track special days to have fun with, but alas … it’s nearly all about Christmas.

Don’t get me wrong, there is no other Holiday all year that keeps us ALL young, which is what we’re all about at 39 and Holding Club. (Have I driven you nuts with all the “all” references yet?! Haha.)

So let’s quit complainin’ and get on with the fun!

Celebrating DECEMBER 39ers ~ And More!
I did find a week that is important to consider as some of us reach our tenth, fifteenth, or twentieth+ 39 and Holding UN-birthdays … the rest is all fun, I promise …

December 7-11:
As much as our inner psyche thinks we’re only twenty-five, at some point our bodies take things to a higher level. So it’s good this month to consider
Older Driver Safety Awareness Week. Reflexes, sight, and let’s face it—coherent thought, if you ever had any 😊—become a little diminished as we celebrate more UN-birthdays of 39 and Holding. So take a peek at their site and have one—just one—reality day. Absorb their message, then tap into your inner child again and move on! ♪ My pick-up gets me where I please | chuggin’ down the street … ♪ *

December 18th:
Let me take you back. Waaaay back … for the birth of … no, not the Christmas namesake. Not quite that far, just to the inspiration for …
National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day! Although holiday-specific sweaters enjoyed popularity in the 1950s, according to CNN, it was the 1980s and a plethora of goofy movies and television shows that brought garish red, white, and green festive-themed sweaters into the mainstream. Their fashion acceptance has waned and peaked again through several decades, but from all hilarious appearances, it is back as a semi-permanent Holiday staple. As you read and enjoy, just remember, ugly is in the eye of the beholder! Don we now, our gay apparel | Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la | troll the ancient yuletide carol ... ♪ **|

December 24th:
So let’s face it … if you don’t have something done for Christmas by this day, chances are, it isn’t going to happen. Time to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labors on
Egg Nog Day!

Betcha didn’t know, “The spirit used to make the cocktail often reveals where that version originates …” Apparently Europe prefers white wine while we American counterparts prefer a heavy shot of rum or Bourbon. Wow—since we get a lot of our hard-drinkin’ habits from our European ancestors, they’re kinda lightweights with the white wine. But each to his/her own. ♪ You can say there’s no such thing as Santa | But as for me and Grandpa, we believe  Why?? ‘Cause … ♪ She’d been drinkin’ too much egg nog
(Of course, please do drink responsibly. As a nightcap before bed is awesome!)

For 39ers who Follow the Stars

Have you ever been put off by a rather blunt Sagittarian? These 39ers (11/22-12/21) speak their minds, often without considering how what they say will be received. They don’t mean to snap at you, but in their haste to get things done, it might happen. Don’t take it to heart. Chances are, they’re on to another big adventure, and could just take you with them!
If you’re the UN-birthday Sagittarian, it’s possible you’re heading for a new beginning with December’s new moon, leading into a dynamic New Year. Add a touch of royal purple to your holiday greenery.

No less determined for success, Capricorn 39ers (12/22-01/19) may seem to be a bit too distant and self-focused. It’s just that they care so much, they want everything to be just right for you! You’ll find them directing the events for the month down to every detail. Cut them some slack and if you lighten up, they’ll come around. But it’s a compromise, Capricorn 39ers. You must be willing to listen. Give those you love your full attention this month, and rejuvenate for the New Year!
Smoothing ruffled feathers will be easier when you line your bright holiday colors with a soft, silver-grey. After tightening your belt in the first half of December, you’ll see your way to a brighter upcoming year with the full moon. Cheers!

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers December 2018

‘Tis the Season to be Jolly!

Here it is, another year end and as usual, 39ers, we’re left scratching our heads, wondering how the other eleven months managed to slip by so quickly.

For some, December brings another UN-birthday that often takes back stage to all the Holiday parties and hoopla. So birthday 39ers, it’s time for you to grab your limelight and deck the halls. Tip: Create a birthday/holiday combo event. Put the party focus on the birthday guy or gal, as the celebrated Elf guest of honor!

39er Fitness and Fun
There are two kinds of people during the Holidays. Yup. Just two. Those who vow not to partake of the volumes of yummy goodies, trying desperately to wear blinders and declare December diet month, and those who don’t give a damn, plying everyone within arm’s length with Irish Cream brownies, rum cake, and a mountain of whip cream on homemade apple pie. Sigh.

What can you do if you edge off the healthy vittles for an Eggnog Mousse Snowman? Exercise! Even a ten-minute walk a couple times a day will help melt away those decadent dessert drink pounds. On your return, make notes for a healthy 2019 nutrition regimen.

Before we look to the January diet jump-starters, let’s wallow in the warm aroma of oven-fresh sugar cookies and remember …

39 Years Ago this Month ~ DECEMBER 1979
Grease hit it big in June 1978 and still dominated the retail Holiday gift-giving more than a year later. But the first week of December 1979, another movie blasted Grease off the grid into outer space …
December 7th: The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) truly began its journey to explore where no man (or woman) had gone before. It ventured out from a little boob tube into a vast world premiere of Star Trek: The Motion Picture where it certainly outlived its five-year mission.
After ten years (the television show ended in 1969), we watched the same small-screen cast come to life in the theaters. Familiar, yes, but the movie added outer dimensions and great new catch-phrases, like “Beam us up, Scotty.” By the way, would you want your bodily DNA whisked through space by a fellow who asks, “When are ya gonna get off of that milk diet Laddy? Now Scotch is a real drink for a man.” Heehee.

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Infamous for spotting opportunities and eternally seeking new ideas, Sagittarian 39ers (11/22-12/21) are the perfect lead-in to the last month of the year. Their adventurous and vivacious personality will guide you through the best parties and festivities of the season. The hard part for the rest of us, is getting them to slow down long enough to enjoy it.

The second half of the month, destination-minded Capricorn (12/22-01/19) takes 2018’s leftover goals and Sag’s flashy new concepts, to fashion a great new 2019 beginning—the perfect team! Caps need you, however, to remind them to lighten up once in a while and appreciate the fruits of their labors.

December’s turquoise gemstone is a symbol of good fortune and success, polished bright for your New Year.

The New Year promises to be … exactly what we make of it. Want to be sad and miserable? There is certainly enough wretchedness around us to help promote your gloom. Choose to be happy and nurturing for yourself and others? Yes … it’s a choice. There is also much in this world to encourage your joy, year-round. Make 2019 your year of cheerfulness and content.

Happy UN-Birthday September 39ers

39ers Soar Through September

Shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone … but it’s only three months until Christmas! Argh!

In September, we dutifully succumb to The Season. Kids of all ages return to school, starting it off with a flurry. From now through end of the year, there is a key activity or holiday that punctuates every month. It goes like this:

September – Major buying month, even if you aren’t of school age, because hey, the sales are great! And admit it—you’re already subconsciously “checking your list.”
October – Owwwwooooo! Don’t let the goblins get ya as we gear up for Halloween magic and madness.
November – Be thankful for everything you have, have had, or will have. Or, just be grateful you made it to another Thanksgiving and honor the memories of those you love, who didn’t.
December – Well, we’ve failed to make this once-reverently festive month “politically correct” so I say, do what makes you feel good. Whether you’re Christian, on which Christmas is based, or celebrate for other reasons, it should be a Season of charity toward all, as we plunge head-long into the New Year.

The Season begins mildly enough with September. Did I say mildly? Ha. I’ve already been accosted by three September 39ers loudly lamenting their advancing ages.

First of all, none of them are as old as I am. So shut up. Secondly, what are we all about here? So, shut up AND remember, you’re only 39 AND HOLDING! Pat yourself on the back and raise a glass for making it to another year as you peruse the rest of the month’s fun for ya-all …

39 Years Ago this Month ~ September 1978
Keeping you young, and thinking back to your youth … as all good things must end, The Carol Burnett Show (CBS 1967–1978) wound up its final (11th) year with a poignant, yet hilarious-as-always show.

Do you remember Carol Burnett? You’ll surely recall the family friendly show with regulars, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, and a continuous string of famous irregulars. Are you smiling yet?

If you have never seen her earlier shows … give yourself a birthday treat and check out a few YouTube offerings. They may be shows of yesteryear, but their topics are as relevant today as ever.

In her heyday, Carol (now a vivacious 84) was the queen of slapstick comedy, yet she always brought an element of humanity to her show, encouraging us to be better people. Want to see for yourself?

The Carol Burnett 50th Anniversary Special will air Sunday, December 3, 2017, at 8 p.m. on CBS. “I’m so glad we had this time together …” and with a little tug of her left ear, “So long …”

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
The Zodiac realm celebrates Virgo’s perfectionism and Libra’s gentle sense of balance, both formidable and lovable … fairly parallel to the Holidays, don’t you think?

Before we charge headfirst into turkey legs and mistletoe, this month is a great time to reflect on the past eight months … or the last eight years … or all the Septembers of your life … not only for our own 39ers, but consider it practice for everyone’s New Year’s resolutions. This is your last chance to give the present an overhaul, before it becomes the past, and portends your future.
Then … let’s PAR-tay!

Ever wonder why so many September 39ers love blue? With the sapphire as their gemstone, what could be more natural? Although ... "sapphires" do come in other colors. Feel special, September 39ers – make it a day, weekend, or whole month filled with balloons and Morning Glories.
