Happy UN-Birthday 39ers AUGUST 2021

39ers Summer Fun Not Just For One!

Though this article is late … again … this time, there is a viable reason. No, really. I’ve been seeking ways to improve the monthly 39AHC blog, and attempting to standardize it a bit more, to give it better continuity and substance.

This month you’ll see a couple new topics: Monthly Wordplay, a cross-referenced segment from my
Penchant for Penning site’s monthly Wordplay Wednesday. Every month a unique word will strive to help 39ers build your vocabulary and promote an active mind.
The new Song of the Month is for 39ers who enjoy that Old Time Rock & Roll or simply curious about what made their parents and grandparents shake, rattle and roll. You’ll find a brief blurb about a song from Blast from Your Past’s monthly Featured Radio Survey50 Years Ago this Month—a site dedicated to pioneering Radio and the dynamic DJs that brought us the new Rock & Roll.
Still in play is a more condensed version of the month’s unique, relevant, or oddball holidays and observances, our star-based section for the month’s Zodiac 39ers, and ending as usual, with a thoughtful Aging with ATT-i-tude Platitude.
Please do click on the links that will take you to my sites, for more information, or a YouTube tune, or current news. My sites are verified safe, and I have visited each of the links to others, to ensure viability, but of course, as with anything on the Internet, you enter at your own risk. I do not receive compensation from any person, product, or company whose links are included in my articles (except my own, of course!). I simply love to share knowledge and nostalgia … they’re great stress-relievers.

All of that said … let’s get on with AUGUST 2021 for 39ers, their friends, and family!

August 39ers arrrrr … oops … got stuck on Pirate talk!

Speaking of talk, we’ll start off the New and Improved 39 and Holding Club article with one of the new topics to test your vocabulary acumen. Ready … ?

֎Monthly Wordplay / August: supererogatory … as we enjoy more 39 and Holding UN-birthdays, we find that familiarity, repetition, and routine are more a part of our days. There’s a word for that! This fourteen-letter word is even longer than superfluous, its most common synonym. Even at our fun age, sometimes we realize that too much of a good thing or anything, is irritating and just supererogatory.

֎Celebrating AUGUST 39ers ~ And More!
>
Some calendars say it’s Boomers Making a Difference Month. However, there is no official link associated with it, so let’s just make it our own! Thing is, you don’t need to stage large, demonstrative actions to make a difference. Even a shy smile for your grocery checker or long-overdue call to someone you love, will make a difference. It’s the moments that count.

>Arrr-gust: Do you know it’s International Pirate Month? Join the folks at this site to celebrate everything pirate-related. From movies to theme parties (perfect for your sunny Leo 39er festivities), you’ll find like-minded ideas and loads of fun. Party hearty, me boatswain buddies, and practice for Talk Like a Pirate Day next month! (September 19th)

>Friday the 13th: Look out! It’s the only one of the year—are you sad or glad? Apprehensive? Be brave. Be strong. You’ve been through enough Friday the 13ths (slasher movies notwithstanding) in your lifetime, to know this day is really what you make of it, dear 39ers. So make it a warm-up to Halloween! A little scary and filled with superstition, but ultimately fun.

>August 21st: On August 19, 1988, President Ronald Reagan issued a declaration proclaiming this day as the National Day of the Third Age—or as it’s known today, World Senior Citizen’s Day. As a senior himself (77 years young), he knew the importance of the day, to laud and acknowledge seniors for all they contribute to society, locally and globally. Give yourselves, and/or your 39er loved ones a thank you and big hug! (And remember, if you’re not there yet, with any luck you will be eventually!)

>August 30th: Let’s slink into September on the next-last day of August with Slinky Day! I’ll bet there isn’t a 39er reading this who hasn’t played with a slinky at some point in life. I still own two, m’self! Slinkys are great stress-relievers and can keep a young’un entertained for at least an hour, watching it “walk” from surface to surface in synchronistic moves. Everyone knows it’s Slinky! ♪ And while you’re singing …

֎Song of the Month:Whatcha See is Whatcha Get”), by the Dramatics makes no promises to nobody, but promises love. (My bad English aside.) I’m as real as real can get … ♪ The perfect song for 39ers, climbed to the middle of WCFL/Chicago’s Featured Radio Survey 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Whether you make your party goers walk the plank or simply sip a summer libation, you
Leo 39ers (07/23-08/22) will roar in satisfaction of another UN-birthday. Some may still tiptoe into parties, not sure what to expect in this confusing climate, but dear Leos, you never step hesitantly anywhere. Let the Sun brighten your month and share the glow with your friends.

While Leos shine through most of August, Virgos (08/23-09/22) also are gearing up for their 39er party, albeit a bit quieter. As a nurturer, Virgo acts on their ancient beginnings as a family-oriented goddess and quietly concocts a plan to accommodate everyone as the summer heat rolls on. Organizing and planning are an integral part of Virgo and they do it very well. They just need an occasional reminder to include their friends.

At this time in my life, nothing galls me more than a person or company that
wastes the precious time of my life, when I only want to spend it having the time of my life. ~ L. Rochelle

Hope this month’s article goes well with your favorite summer libation! Feel free to comment below.

Cheers to your Happy UN-Birthday AUGUST 39ers!

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers MAY 2021

Put a Spring in Your Step from May Day to Memorial Day!

Wake up 39ers! Spring has sprung and freedom feels more precious than ever. From May Day to Memorial Day, let’s honor our 39er UN-birthdays with special personal and patriotic days in May for any age …

Celebrating MAY 39ers ~ And More!
39ers often have revelations about life as they reach another 39 and Holding birthday. One of those aha! moments may bring you to realizing that May, as Personal History Month, is a great time to start your family legacy … documenting your life and place within your family is important. Do it. Do it now.

A great way to evoke memories and familial thoughts is to take some daily quiet time for yourself. Although there are no official links associated with these designations, you may find those I’ve included helpful to observe National Meditation Month, which sets the tone for National Mental Health Month, our nod to your well-being for May.

Even five minutes of
meditation is good for your body, mind, spirit and soul. So breathe deep and follow the links with information for quick meditation, which could fundamentally contribute to your overall mental health.

Merry Days in May
May 9th ~ Mother's Day
– Of course, it’s Mother’s Day! To all of you in every generation … Happy Mother’s Day! Dig out all the old photos of your kids, and happy reminiscing …

May 10-16th: While we’re pouring over old photos, let’s raise a pint to American Craft Beer Week! San Diego is a mecca of craft beers. But even if you don’t live in a town that caters to beer lovers, your local store surely stocks some tempting independent brewers. The cool folks at CraftBeer.com even offer an interactive map to help you find them! Have you taste-tested a favorite and stuck with it, or do you try a new one every week? Whichever … be adventurous. Cheers!

May 25-30th: So I ask you, have you ever been called “stubborn as an ol’ mule”? Of course, that may happen more often, the more 39 and Holding birthdays you pass! Well, pardner, mellow out and go where you can join the real ones for Mule Days!
Take a rural vacation from pretty much everything, in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains area of
Bishop, California. They love their mules. Seriously. The folks there have been celebrating the irascible animal for nearly fifty years, and proud of it. More fun than a carnival, campground, and rodeo put together. Tickets still available for Will Call. Get off your duff and go!

May 15th ~ Straw Hat Day – It’s true! Once upon a time, men wore “boaters,” the original straw hat, strictly between May and September 15th, signaling the span of summer. But do you know there also was once, a “Straw Hat Riot”?
Taken straight from its Wiki page: “The
Straw Hat Riot of 1922 was a riot that occurred in New York City. Originating as a series of minor riots, it spread due to men wearing straw hats past the unofficial date that was deemed socially acceptable, September 15. It lasted eight days, leading to many arrests and some injuries.” Oh my. And you thought riots began in the ‘60s. On a more civilized note, let’s tip our glasses (not hats), to …

May 25th ~ National Wine Day – Not that this day needs a “club,” to deliver grape enjoyment, but the most excellent folks at the WineClubGroup.com, who established the day, reviewed wine clubs in nearly every state, to provide further incentive to tip a glass of grapes, and listed a number of special wine days throughout the year. But then, who needs an excuse … right?!

31st ~ Memorial Day – Remember to wear and display your red-white-blue for a true-blue holiday that commemorates the bravery of our military service men and women, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America. Unfortunately, many citizens have forgotten, never known, or disdain the official practices for flying the American flag. Especially on days like this, Old Glory is a vibrant symbol of respect, for your country, for others, and most of all, for yourself. Fly it proudly.

For 39ers who Follow the Stars ...

Mayflowers for Moms! Whether you’re a deliberate and steadfast Taurus (April 20-May 20) based in earthy complexity —or party-hearty Gemini (May 21-June 20) eager for a full moon gala, Mom isn’t far from your thoughts. Give her May’s fragrant lily-of-the-valley that “signifies sweetness, humility, and a return to happiness.” Particularly appropriate this year.

Taurus 39ers personify the vibrant, multi-faceted cuts of the sign’s deep
emerald birthstone. Much like mom, it goes beyond the surface and roots calmly in your mindful crevices. Also like mom, the emerald shimmers brightly over quick-witted and chatty Geminis too.
No May celebration is complete without them! You may try, but you likely won’t keep up with Gemini’s energetic twin sign as they rush head-long through the month, adding a seemingly magic touch to every moment.

Aging with ATT-i-tude Platitude
You may be gray with a lopsided gait, but your inner child knows no such fate. Laugh.
~ L. Rochelle

Cheers to your Happy UN-Birthday MAY 39ers
