39ers Aging with ATTitude SEPTEMBER 2024

It’s Us Against the World, September 39ers!

Happy UN-Birthday SEPTEMBER 39ers! And many more …  Once upon a time, long, long, ago … Septembers were the weatherly beginnings of cooler climates. Ever-so-slowly, what once was our final heat wave at Summer’s end in August, has slipped warmly into September. And if I may make a humble prediction, we’ll weather another broiling few days again in October, before settling into the Holiday chills.

However, all that matters not, 39ers, as this month we celebrate Aging with ATT-i-tude, no matter what Mother Nature throws at us! So let’s get to it …

֎ Celebrating September 39ers ~ And More!

For 39ers who Follow the Stars

Although Virgo 39ers will have the opportunity to recreate yourselves, making all the right decisions for a complete upgrade, don’t forget to take them one step at a time. Try not to be apprehensive to make a necessary change; it’s likely you’ve been in need of it for a while. You’re observant and efficient—make the most of it!

Ah, our Libra friends may find September starting out a little temperamental. No worries! Seek answers and all will become clear, m’dears! Use the Lunar Eclipse on the 17th to your advantage, making changes along the way to stabilize your health and overall well-being. It will benefit you both personally and professionally. Found your true calling yet? This might be the time to give it some thought.

֎ More September Fun for Everyone
Well, at 39AHC we rarely celebrate anything in the first week of the month anyway … except 39er birthdays, of course … as I rarely make the first-of-the-month deadline. And ya know, I’m OK with that.

The more Time that passes in life, the more you become aware—Time is what you make of it. For myself, as Time marches on, I find that doing what I want to do, not always what I should do, is becoming a higher priority. Of course, those with jobs and other obligations must prioritize to fit their lifestyle (I’m supposed to be retired)—but don’t forget, lifestyles can be altered. Anytime. Anywhere. It’s all up to you.

That said, we’ll dive into the rest of September with gusto and make every special day a gala day, to focus on more than the “shoulds” of life. A great start for all of us is International Self-Awareness Month. The sponsoring site offers common sense ways to recognize or enhance our self-awareness, which elevates our quality of life. After all, if we don’t know ourselves, who does?

How much do you know about “Nature’s finest work”? It’s a honey of a site as we celebrate September as National Honey Month with the National Honey Board! We’ve learned in recent years how much bees and their sweet, golden nectar contribute to our health and well-being. Learn more about its history and how we can help to sustain honey bees’ ongoing survival.

Monday ~ September 2nd: Of course, the New Moon still needs mentioning, as it offered us a boost into the month with New Moon Musings. It’s a fresh start to carry us through the month, reconstructing and recreating until our awesome second Supermoon appears on the 17th. But before then …

Friday ~ September 13th: Ooooooh … pre-Halloween fun! Do you think the number 13 is spooky? Try living in a 14-story apartment building with a bona fide “crazy lady” on the 13th floor! (Yes, I do, AND I am on the 13th floor—and no, it isn’t me.)
On moving in, when the property manager told me where the available apartment was located, my brain did take a breath and a slight back-step. I expressed surprise that they even have a 13th floor, as many office and apartment
buildings do not. But apparently not having triskaidekaphobia (fear of #13—and don’t ask me how to pronounce it), and needing a place to live, I soldiered on, mainly on the basis of its great suburban-canyon view.
       There is plenty of
legend and lore about the number 13. Of course, the Friday the 13th movie franchise didn’t help its reputation any. Which, interestingly has 12 films, begging the question, why didn’t they make a 13th?? Superstitious are we?
Now, mind you, I’ve actually always had good luck and enjoyed Friday the 13th, ignoring its paraskevidekatriaphobiaplus status—fear of the day. I have no problem trekking under ladders or walking right up to a cute black cat. But living on the 13th floor is a whole different animal. Especially if it’s haunted. Heehee …

Do you enjoy or dread Friday the 13th days? Warning … or look forward … to another Friday the 13th in December.

Sunday ~ September 15th: Every generation since music found a way to reach broad audiences, we’ve seen a procession of recorded listening devices. As 39ers, you may recall (or at least heard of) the once-ubiquitous 8-track player. Time to celebrate National 8-Track Tape Day! The sponsor link tells a fantastically fun history of the ‘60s-‘80s popular player that began as Ford’s factory-installed inspiration for auto audio. Cool! Have fun scouring your local antiques & collectibles shop—bet you’ll find one!

Tuesday ~ September 17th: September is host to the 2nd Supermoon in our 2024 foursome. I’m thinkin’ it’s gonna be a magical Fall/Winter season. It’s a great time to make meditation a part of life, if you haven’t already. It may help you energize and magnify September’s Full Moon Magic during the Harvest Moon. Why is this moon called the Harvest Moon as opposed to October’s? It occurs closest to the Autumnal Equinox of September 22nd, which signifies the traditional corn harvest season. Whatever the full moon means to you … a monthly time to cleanse, reorganize, cultivate and meditate … or just taking pleasure in a big, beautiful blob in the sky, make the most of it. If nothing else, simply refresh, and thank the Universe for its presence.

Sunday ~ September 22nd: Well, I’ve heard that today is National Centenarian's Day. Sadly though, there is no sponsoring link or even current organized events to mark this special day. At 39AHC, although we insist “Age is not a number, it’s all ATTitude,” many of us want to live to be 100. My dad did. He poignantly missed his mark by a longshot. And I have to wonder, if he could see the world as it is today, would he still have that desire? We have more centenarians than ever before, but according to the CDC (and post-pandemic numbers), we’re expected to stick around for about 77.5 years. So, it’s still a real accomplishment to hit that 100 mark—go visit a local centenarian and just sit with a listening heart. You might learn more than you think.

֎ September Song of Note
What we might think is the sweetest love song of the 1970s, reportedly began as a gag ditty and even that isn’t the real essence of it. I culled our monthly Song of Note from Fresno, California’s, September 18, 1974 KYNO “Thirty” survey #387, sitting at #15: Helen Reddy’s (1941-2020) “You and Me Against the World.” It struck a chord for this tumultuous world.
Songwriters, Kenny Ascher and Paul Williams playfully vied each other to create the best lyrics about other tuneful composers when they realized they had a hit song emerging about lost love. Having recently lost beloved family members, Helen (infamous for her “I Am Woman” anthem) likened it to the loss of a child and added it to her fifth album, Love Song for Jeffrey, with the printed dedication, "In memory of my mother, Stella Lamond Reddy, July 1973, my father, Max Reddy, September 1973, and my beloved aunt, Helen Reddy Sr., January 1974."

When all the others turn their back and walk away | You can count on me to stay More tuneful tidbits to manifest your memories of 1974, and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ Aging with ATT-i-tude Platitude
The more I age, the more I find myself redefining what’s important. I did it when I was younger, too, but it didn’t involve wrinkle cream.

And dear readers, I just want you to know that I try my best to create an informative, aesthetically creative article for you each month. However, Blogger is not a professional hosting site—but they’re free through Google. So we’re stuck with their crummy platform that adds annoying gaps willy-nilly and doesn’t work well to manipulate images with writing, if you aren’t a techie who knows HTML. Trust me, I’ve tried for years to write articles without gaps between paragraphs and even between sentences. Sigh. Maybe I’ll win the lottery and be able to afford a professional hosting site someday. Cheers!

Coming soon … The Psychedelic Seventies!
