39ers Aging with ATTitude February 2025

We’re Lovin’ Love & Keepin’ It Real!

Happy UN-Birthday February 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ As always, we’ll celebrate birthdays of the month, this time for Aquarius and Pisces. Along with moon phases, we welcome Extraterrestrial Culture Day, World Hippo Day and of course, it’s the Love Month!

֎ Celebrating FEBRUARY 39ers ~ And More!
… but first …

For 39ers who Follow the Stars

Well,
Aquarius (01/20 – 02/18) 39ers, although the beginning of this month is a tad confusing and convoluted in your relationships, just hang on and follow your instincts. By the 12th’s Full Moon, you’ll have a better understanding of which way to turn. Talk it through before the end of the month, however, so you can turn your attention to health and an ideal business opportunity that could be staring you right in the eye … take notice!
While Aquarius is seeking clarification, you,
Pisces (02/19 – 03/20) 39ers, should be feeling the impact of great monetary possibilities well before the Full Moon. It could be something you’ve been working toward or completely unexpected. But by the time the New Moon slides into view on the 27th you could be envisioning a clearer path with heightened energy and long-term potential. Don’t be afraid to pursue it with passion and power.

February Vintage Song of Note

Sadly or gladly, as 39ers we’re likely past the starry-eyed glamour of love (regardless of what Hallmark movies try to tell us) and have come to a comfortable conclusion that there is much more meaningful love beyond the initial attractions. But we never seem to quite leave behind, this kind of hopeful love …
February’s Song of Note is simple and lovestruck. It wafted along radio airwaves in 1975 from X-ROC 80, an El Paso, Texas, border-blaster transmitting loud and clear in Juarez, Mexico. From a sweet twittering bird to Minnie’s pure, chirping voice, “Lovin’ You” is just a simple little love song. If you’re feelin’ nostalgic and hankerin’ for love, enjoy! Stay with me while we grow old | And we will live each day in springtime

֎ More FEBRUARY Fun for Everyone

But wait, there’s more! From Super Bowl madness to Extraterrestrial Culture Day, to Valentine’s Day, and our “honorary grandpa’s” birthday, we’re lovin’ the Love Month …

Sunday ~ February 9th: Well, there is no escaping it … Super Bowl Sunday is here. Officially LIX, it’s invading New Orleans and If you’re not into football, you are likely either married to someone or buddies with someone, or stuck babysitting for someone, who loves the day’s fun and festivity, if not the game. Engrained in our country’s sports DNA since the first game in 1967 between Green Bay Packers (35) and Kansas City Chiefs (10), by my count, Kansas has trekked to five Super Bowls, winning all but the first. A win today would give them three in a row.
Today, the face-off between Kansas and
Philadelphia Eagles will see the latter trying to soothe their ruffled feathers from the last Super Bowl match-up in 2023 (Chiefs-38, Eagles 35). But if the NFL Bowl isn’t your cuppa team, hop on over to watch the annual Puppy Bowl XXI which is sure to be a howling good time, too!

Tuesday ~ February 11th: Are you ready to celebrate your out-of-this-world side? It’s Extraterrestrial Culture Day! Of course, that’s a “thing.” There is no “official” sponsor, however, every second Tuesday of February, people travel from all over to revel in and learn about extraterrestrials, especially those that gained prominence in 1947 New Mexico.

Surely, you’ve heard the myths, legends and lore of the famed Roswell Incident. If not, the links here will tell you all about it. The US Air Force official “case closed” statements offer an even more unrealistic version than the rumored wild reports of the day … “Contrary to allegations, many of the accounts appear to be descriptions of unclassified and widely publicized Air Force scientific achievements. Other descriptions of ‘bodies’ appear to be actual incidents in which Air Force members were killed or injured in the line of duty.” The rancher and his son who reported the initial sighting, gave a vastly different account.
Regardless of the story’s legitimacy, in 2003, the
New Mexico legislature decided to capitalize on their notoriety with this commemorative day. The mini-museums and UFO-related sights (unidentified flying objects, now officially known as UAP, or unidentified anomalous phenomenon) are year-round. You can even relax after a day of chasing cosmos creatures at Roswell’s local space-themed McDonald’s! Live long and prosper …

Wednesday ~ February 12th: Look up! There’s a Full Moon tonight. So what’s in store for us with this big, round block of cheese? Whether you live in a true wintry climate or not, tonight we’ll celebrate Full Snow Moon Magic! Recognized since the 1760s as the snowiest month of the year, the February 2025 Full Snow Moon is indeed, bringing snow to many northern states of the US this week.
If possible, take time to appreciate its beauty and revel in its call to your Inner Child to play! It’ll be worth braving the cold for memories of yesteryear. If you’re not in the snow zone, the Full Moon can also be special to you as the Bald Eagle Moon (Cree) or the Bear Moon (Ojibwe)—both majestic and admirable symbols of strength.

Friday ~ February 14th: Of course, it’s Valentine’s Day (what a history it has)! But at 39 and Holding Club, we also celebrate with our annual nod to iconic comedian and 39AHC honorary grandpa, Jack Benny, born on this day in 1894. Why him? Mr. Benny is the first reported “39er to utter the words, “There’s nothing funny about turning 40—I’m just ‛39 and Holding’!”

Saturday ~ February 15th: Although the sponsor for World Hippo Day—today!—is not updated for 2025, the adorable Hippo still needs love.

As Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) reportedly mused, “There is an eagle in me that wants to soar, and there is a hippopotamus in me that wants to wallow in the mud.” Let’s hear it for Hippos! (This one’s for my bro (1941-2005. He loved hippos.)

Wednesday ~ February 26th: Love Month doesn’t end on the 14th. A dozen years ago, a young student began Love for Our Elders, a non-profit, in tribute to his grandparents who often wrote letters to him. With the non-profit’s growth, five years ago, the same Jacob Cramer initiated “Letter To An Elder Day” on this day to further promote letter-writing to elders. Do it for your loved ones or make friends with an elder who needs a special friend. (The site provides suggestions and opportunities.)

Friday ~ February 28th: It’s the last day of the month and you can take a deep breath of relief and anticipation with New Moon Musings! When it lands in the last week of the month, it holds a double-whammy for us to relax with February’s accomplishments and look forward to March’s exciting
possibilities.

And just out of curiosity, when is the next Leap Year? February 2028 … start planning now with fun facts!

39ers Aging with ATTitude MARCH 2024

Swinging into Spring with a Summer ATT-i-tude!

Happy UN-Birthday MARCH 39ers! I had high hopes last year that I’d finally be able to celebrate our own special holiday properly—39 And Holding Day is on March 22nd.

“Mature” 39ers know life rarely goes according to plan. Rather than prepping for a fun, in-person party in our home base of San Diego, I’m in the middle of time-sucking apartment renovations mandated by the building owners. I heave a deep sigh with a vintage melody in mind   Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

However, please do mark your calendar for March 22nd and plan a party for 39ers in your city to enjoy, meet, and commiserate with those who know that 39 And Holding is an ATT-i-tude! At the very least, know that I’ll be thinking of you-all at 5:00p (PST) for Happy Hour! Raise your glass in a toast—cheers / Sláinte to us … 39ers always young at heart!

֎ Celebrating March 39ers ~ And More!
I know … it’s so difficult at times, to be upbeat and happy in this troubled era. So, I’m hoping this will help you want to “stop and smell the roses” or at least wish on a dandelion … okay, maybe just buy yourself a lottery ticket, ‘cause win or lose, it offers a ray of hope.

I can only assume that was the attitude in mind by whoever first registered Optimism Month with the calendars. There is no supporting link associated with it, which allows us to celebrate it any way we like—with a smile! Some of us are inherent optimists, but others struggle to move past depressing news or life events.
A habit I’ve found useful is to trick my mind … seriously. I let it wallow in anger, frustration, confusion, or sadness, for about five minutes. Time’s up! Now, find something funny, sweet, turn on some upbeat music, or, one of my faves is contact a super-friend who always makes you laugh. What other fun dates do we have for March? Here we go …

Sunday ~ March 10th: It’s time for New Moon Musings! oh my, it’s a busy day in the universe, as we contemplate our New Moon with the start of Daylight Saving Time! Celebrate March’s New Beginnings with New Moon Musings to bring a fresh, meditative boost to your month. Don’t forget, March 10 is also the start of Daylight Saving Time. If your area observes it, don’t forget to “spring forward” and set the clocks one hour ahead … yeah, I know, we lose an hour but you’ll get over it in November!

Monday~Sunday ~ March 11th-17th: is International Brain Awareness Week and it fits right in with Optimism Month. Although the sponsoring link has some good content, it’s tough to get past the 2021 last blog date. No worries! I found the Cleveland Clinic’s article of “Amazing Facts You Didn’t Know About Your Brain.” Be prepared to be astounded. And at Medical News Today you can learn “22 brain exercises to improve memory, cognition, and creativity.” Enjoy! Although you may know of some or a lot of these tips & trivia, betcha don’t know ‘em all … do you know the brain runs on electricity and can power a 25-watt bulb? Learn something new, it’s good for your brain!

Sunday ~ March 17th: Oh, if you’re of Irish heritage, you know what this day is and how to celebrate it! Traditionally, it’s St. Patrick’s Day and for a century-plus, Americans who claim Irish genes (real or not) have tipped a few pints and enjoyed the camaraderie.
Now, as one who had a grandfather with the surname Connelly (though I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting Ireland), I can say this … there are people these days who think referring to the Irish in context with drinking is offensive. I have never met anyone of Irish descent who is offended by the reference. But then, I wasn’t raised in Ireland. And today’s mores (skewed as they are) are waaaay different from my upbringing of yesteryear.
By nature, our clan anyway, takes things in stride and knows how to laugh at ourselves … something the rest of the world seems to have forgotten. And speaking only for our family, we do know how to enjoy the day, complete with beer, wine, or a
sweet Irish creme coffee. Go ahead … tell us a drunken Irish joke or limerick, and we’ll all have a great laugh! Sláinte!

Tuesday ~ March 19th: The New Moon isn’t the only time for a personal new beginning. Our first day of Spring begins today. Formally called the Vernal Equinox—also called the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere—marking the beginning of spring. With thoughts of Spring, Summer isn’t far behind! Take the day to meditate—or vegetate—your choice!

Friday ~ March 22nd:  It’s OUR day, 39ers! 😊 I created the 39 And Holding Day a couple of years ago, but life has not been cooperative to my creative endeavors in the past several years, so I haven’t been able to fully promote it. Unfortunately, this year is no different … but I am an eternal optimist … next year!
In the meantime, gather all your 39er friends together for fun, with ATT-i-tude! If you need proof that generations before us had the 39er ATT-i-tude, today is also “As Young as You Feel Day”! Why? Click the link and learn all about the movie that launched the career of Marilyn Monroe …

Saturday ~ March 23rd: It’s OK Day! Are you OK? I’m OK … for a very small word, “OK” has a very long history and nearly missed the mark altogether. Though popular in the 19th century’s general vernacular, well-known authors resisted the temptation to use it, for decades.
There’s even a book that tells stories of its climb up the ranks of public acceptance since 1839, OK: The Improbable Story of America's Greatest Word, by Allan Metcalf. NPR gave it a fascinating
article back in 2010, quoting the author’s account, "Louisa May Alcott used OK once in Little Women, and in the next edition of that she changed OK to 'cozy' ... like 'I'm cozy with that,' instead of 'I'm OK with that' -- which indicates there was something uncomfortable about it."
Funny, though, some of the article alludes to Americans’ can-do attitude and OK’s social acceptance by the time Thomas Harris’s book, I’m OK, You’re OK was written in the 1960s. Using that as an example, Metcalf suggested the word also offers acceptance.
Said Metcalf, "Based on that I'm OK, you can be different from me and that's OK, I think our country is a lot more tolerant now than it used to be." Well, we’ve certainly done an about-face on that attitude, haven’t we?
Read the article—it’s truly engaging and makes for fun chit-chat fodder.

Monday ~ March 25th: Ah-ooooo … sorry, the Full Moon makes me a little crazy sometimes. Yes, it’s time for March Full Moon Magic! As often happens, the Full Worm Moon will be just as entertaining Sunday night as it reaches its zenith in the wee hours of Monday morning. This month, it promises to appear especially large and
exciting. Do you dislike rain when you’re trying to view the moon? Surprise! That’s the best time to witness a cool “moonbow.” Yep, it’s a “rainbow” created by moonlight! Look for it in the dark sky just after sunset. Enjoy!

Sunday ~ March 31st: What’s that I hear? It’s the soft hippity-hop of the EASTER bunny! ‘Tis true, Easter arrives early this year (next year, not ‘til April 20th), and it’s time to pull out your best style for church, while making sure your eggs and goodies are well-hidden. The Farmer’s Almanac lists a host of Easter Sunday trivia that includes how its date is determined, noting that this year, it ties in with the Vernal Equinox and Full Moon! Fascinating …

֎ Monthly Song of Note

Ah, do you feel the soft, warm breeze? I know, it’s only March and it’s still freezy, not just breezy. That’s why I chose this vintage tune to help us visualize warmer days …Summer Breeze” by the Isley Brothers, takes on a little different style in this ’74 cover of Seals & Crofts’ 1972 tune. Entering the KSLQ March 22, 1974 chart at #26, the Isley Brothers’ jazzy rendition wasn’t as popular as the original and didn’t make many other popular station charts.
Even if you prefer the Seals & Crofts’ version, that it warmed up our ’74 Spring still makes it special. And the Isley Brothers are still Rockin’! M
ore tuneful tidbits to manifest your memories of 1974, and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Hey 39er Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20), it’s gonna be a stellar month, if you swim upstream and follow the signs! With the New Moon shining in your sign, it’s a great time for a self-makeover. You’ll have help from Venus this month. Good things can come from recreating your best, glowing image, inside and out. Finances could also get a makeover in March with a boost from your new self-confidence.
You won’t be left out of the fun this month, Aries (Mar 21-April 19)! Though you may feel the beginning of March is a little slow, that’s just your inner self prepping for a much-needed sojourn of soul-searching. Don’t inhibit yourself. You may feel the need to go beyond your standard therapy and meditative methods. Be adventurous! March 25th’s lunar eclipse will add spunk to your personal and professional relationships. Nurture them and March should be an all-round good month for Ram 39ers.
